Bosch

The first inventory category in the archives of written documents contains the heritage of Robert Bosch GmbH and Robert Bosch AG and their headquarters. It begins before the formation of the company in 1886 and extends right up to the recent past.
The Bosch inventory category is divided into inventories with quite different contents and structures. Some inventories contain entire submissions by particular departments, such as the legal department. These inventories are augmented by submissions from individual members of the Board of Management, such as Hans Walz. Other inventories contain collections about particular topics at Bosch, such as training, organization, accounting and health.

The most significant inventory is the collection of the prime sources and original documents from company founder Robert Bosch. These files span 4 meters of shelving and are divided into 730 archive units. The inventory includes Robert Bosch’s correspondence, manuscripts of his speeches and presentations, and also articles about him.

For example, this inventory contains Robert Bosch’s apprenticeship testimonial as a precision engineer from 1879. Robert Bosch memories of his time as an apprentice were fond ones, as the memoirs he wrote in 1921 testify. He provided excellent training for apprentices in his own company and set up a workshop for apprentices in 1913.
