How patient data are transmitted to medical specialists

Monitored remotely, yet closer to the doctor: Telehealth connects people and medical professionals.

An easy-to-use device enables patients to stay in close touch with medical specialists day in day out. Health data such as blood pressure and weight are sent via the internet from the device to the telehealth center. Patients also answer questions on their state of health. Experts in the telehealth center have everything they need to know at their fingertips in order to improve care management.

This technology can assist in a range of chronic illnesses, such as hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, or chronic lung diseases. As many as 120,000 people in the U.S. already receive telehealth support; in Germany the number is approximately 15,000.

Patients’ state of health is stabilized, and they have to visit a doctor or hospital less frequently. Furthermore, patients are treated in their familiar home environment and learn how to cope better with their illness. This gives patients peace of mind and greater confidence – and enhances their quality of life.
