With a workforce of around 390,000 associates worldwide, the Bosch Group bears a particular responsibility for employment, training, and education.
Bosch has been supporting universities and research projects focusing on the environment, energy, and mobility through the InterCampus Program since 2011.
The RWTH Aachen, for example, received funding to set up a new chair for renewable energies, specializing in wind power. In North America, money from the InterCampus Program funds the Bosch Energy Research Network (BERN). This is a joint initiative of ten top universities in the United States for collaborative research into transformational energy technologies such as solar energy, photovoltaics, and wind energy. By 2021, Bosch will have invested a total of approximately 50 million euros in higher education through its InterCampus program.
Robert Bosch Center
With the Robert Bosch Center for Power Electronics (rbz) in Reutlingen, the Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences and the University of Stuttgart established a research and teaching network that focuses exclusively on developing promising technologies. Founded in 2009, the cooperative venture is the first and only partnership of its kind in Germany.
Together, the partners train highly specialized electronics engineers. Their programs of study focus primarily on technologies related to the energy turnaround. For instance, students work on components that are used in the realms of e-mobility, wind power, and photovoltaics, as well as in the area of building technology.
Bosch supports the rbz by financing several professorships, for instance.
For company founder Robert Bosch, promoting young talent was a central aspect of social responsibility. The Bosch Group has kept to this tradition: since 1985, Bosch has supported the Jugend forscht competition for young people with an interest in technology. As sponsor of the state competition in Baden-Württemberg, Bosch organizes the annual state final for participants aged 15 to 21. The winners get the opportunity to represent Baden-Württemberg at the national competition, and to present their projects there.
Wissensfabrik — Knowledge Factory
As a founding member of the “Wissensfabrik — Unternehmen für Deutschland” (Knowledge Factory — Companies for Germany) initiative, Bosch works to promote the education of children and young people. In joint projects with kindergartens and schools, we want to give children and young people a better understanding of business and technology. Bosch has entered into some 260 partnerships with educational institutions such as kindergartens and schools across Germany.
The member companies in the Knowledge Factory also support students and young entrepreneurs. The annual WECONOMY competition for new businesses gives founders with the best business ideas the opportunity to attend a networking weekend to share information and ideas with experienced managers.
