Industry 4.0: Flexible in the digital production world

Reading time: 7 minutes

Digitalization and networking offer plants additional flexibility and transparency. However, the implementation of Industry 4.0 also brings challenges. At the Hannover Messe 2018, Bosch Rexroth presents an appropriate application: The fully automated production line is adaptable to any production task by appropriate modular units and digital software solutions.

Meeting new requirements

Multitechnology exhibit TS5 meets i4.0

The next industrial revolution and the accompanying digitization of processes allow enterprises to act at even greater speeds and, above all, with even greater customer orientation: Prototypes are easy to test, customer feedback is available promptly, and manufacturability findings are acquired without effort. This shortens product life cycles, while raising demand for customized products. Individual manufacturing processes must therefore become more adaptable.

To meet these requirements, Bosch Rexroth developed an automated manufacturing concept. Here, the physical world of production comes closer to the virtual world of information technology.

The automated manufacturing concept links conventional production with innovative information technology.

The digital all-rounder

At the Hannover Messe 2018, you can experience the multitechnology exhibit "TS5 meets i4.0" live in action. Four products using the digital Bosch Rexroth approach are combined here with automated transfer technology:

Transfer System TS5

The roller conveyor system with drive shaft is extremely versatile owing to its clever modular design.

Transfer System TS5

The innovative concept is based on smart modules from the Transfer System TS5: They are combinable among themselves as well as with other Industry 4.0-compatible Rexroth solutions. The transfer system is flexibly adaptable to the demands of various industry branches and, above all, to the individual requirements of customers.

Intelligent decision making — easy with the cordless WiFi nutrunner Nexo with integrated barcode scanner.

Nexo — The truly intelligent cordless nutrunner

The Rexroth Nexo for safety critical applications ensures maximum freedom as well as maximum process reliability. Its decentralized intelligence is located within the tool and can be taken to where the applications are. Its technology can include barcode scanning and intelligent decision making as to which product variable should get assembled with which specific tightening processes.

ActiveAssist assisted assembly system

The digital assistant guides the operator interactively through the manual assembly.

ActiveAssist assisted assembly system

During manual assembly, the variant management system plays an increasingly important role: The ActiveAssist identifies a specific workpiece and projects the appropriate instructions for the operator directly onto the work surface within his ergonomic range of vision. A 3D camera follows every movement and confirms the correct selection of materials from the grab containers, among other things.

ActiveCockpit

The interactive communication platform acquires, processes, and visualizes manufacturing data in real time.

ActiveCockpit

To make the production process even more efficient, ActiveCockpit processes the relevant manufacturing data. The data serves as the basis for decisions and supports production optimization and error avoidance. The transparency that this achieves permits rapid reaction to deviations directly in the production line with a minimum of effort.
